HF Stencil was created for the graphic identity of the Holland Festival in collaboration with design studio Thonik, Amsterdam. The design is inspired by a classic — Glaser Stencil from 1970 — but exponentiated by hundreds of unique ligatures. These unusual, fragmented glyphs play with the conventions of legibility by simultaneously connecting and disconnection individual lettersforms. Add to that a large number of stylistic alternates per character and the result is a sophisticated typographic system that shines in large sizes and spirited applications.
